Welcome to the Shadow of the Greens. This is the second of many campaigns you experience while playing through Game of Thrones: Dragonfire. In this blog, we’ll go over the story of this campaign, what to expect, and what to best take advantage of to make the most of your second reign.
Take Note: Shadow of the Greens is unique as an introductory campaign, and you will likely never repeat it once completed.
As you play Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, Campaigns offer you a path into the heart of Westeros, playing through epic scenarios that may shape the realm’s future. You can learn more about the technical specifics of Reigns, Campaigns, Stages, and Transitions by reading our Guide to Campaigns.

Overview
After briefly claiming King’s Landing in Heirs of the Dragon, Rhaenyra and Daemon face fierce resistance and retreat to regroup. The Green’s feats and words fuel public support for Aegon’s bid for the Throne.
In response to your support for the Blacks, those on the side of the Greens conduct a scorched-earth campaign, destroying your stronghold and forcing you to rebuild from nothing.
Now King’s Landing lies in enemy hands. The Greens wear the crown, but their hold is brittle—fractured by ambition, fear, and whispered doubt. Rhaenyra has fallen back, her banners scattered, but her eyes remain fixed on the throne.
You are her shadow. Rebuild your strength in secret, earn the trust of the enemy, and unravel their alliances from the inside. As Otto, Alicent, and Aemond each pull the young king Aegon II in different directions, your every move will tip the balance.
Deceive, disrupt, and decide who will rule the realm…

- Alicent Hightower – Central Westeros
- Aemond Targaryen – Southern Westeros

Otto Hightower – Northern Westeros
Ally with other players in the North. A land of hard winters, hardy folk, and solemn oaths, where loyalty is earned and honor still carries weight.

The North does not bend easily, but neither does it stand alone forever. You will find no glory in reckless war here—only the slow, patient turning of loyalties long held. I offer stability in a world gone mad, law where there is only vengeance, and a king who rules for the realm, not for his pride.
Rhaenyra’s false promises frayed this land, her fire leaving only ash. Let us rebuild—not with dragons, but with treaties. The lords here want peace, not queens born of war. I shall give them a king who listens… and rewards hands that stay loyal.

Begin on the rugged coastlines of Pyke, the ancient seat of House Greyjoy, perched dramatically on crumbling cliffs in the Iron Islands. Its grey-black stone keeps, linked by precarious rope bridges, stand as stark symbols of Ironborn resilience and power.
Though isolated, Pyke is a steadfast starting point, primed for swift expansion into the Iron Islands and northward toward Winterfell’s powerful domain.

Alicent Hightower – Central Westeros
Ally with other players in Central Westeros. A realm of ancient seats, courtly ambition, and watchful lords, shaped by its closeness to power.

In the heart of Westeros, we do not need dragons—we have truth, faith, and the weight of legacy. My son wears the Conqueror’s crown. His blood is no less royal than hers. Yet the people must be reminded—again and again—through words, through action, through sacrifice.
The heartlands are the soul of the realm, and I am its shield. Let Rhaenyra keep her dragons. It is here that we shape what endures. Through the tongues of maesters, the sermons of septons, and the whispers of spies, I shall unmake her claim and raise Aegon not merely as king… but as the only king.

The heart of the realm, rich with fertile lands and bustling trade routes. Central Westeros promises prosperity, but shifting loyalties and proximity to King’s Landing keep tensions high.
Begin your journey at the lofty heights of the Eyrie (1573, 1659), a fortress of enduring strength nestled high in the Vale. Perched high on the Giant’s Lance, the Eyrie is the ancestral seat of House Arryn, one of the oldest Andal lines. Accessible by treacherous mountain paths and guarded by waycastles, its slender white towers symbolize beauty and impregnability.
From this strategic stronghold, extend your reach into the fertile Riverlands and the rugged Mountains of the Moon, establishing a formidable presence across central and eastern Westeros.

Aemond Targaryen – Southern Westeros
Ally with other players in the South. A land of fierce sun, elegance, and proud houses, where passion burns hot and vengeance is an art.

The South thought itself safe. Too distant, too proud, too old to be touched by war. But dragons fly far, and Vhagar flies faster than rumor. Let them whisper fear in their halls, let them kneel before they burn.
Rhaenyra took these lands under a False Queen’s banner, but I will take them back in mine. Every banner that turns green brings us closer to a realm united—and mine is the fire that will forge it. Aegon shall reign, because I will leave no one alive who says otherwise.

A region of sunlit hills, thriving ports, and ancient knowledge. From the deserts of Dorne to the learned halls of Oldtown, Southern Westeros rewards those who respect its customs and seize its opportunities.
Launch from the ancient city of Oldtown (557, 403), a hub of trade and knowledge is a historic city and seat of House Hightower. Known for its lighthouse and the Citadel, it stands as a hub of trade and learning, its harbor welcoming ships from across the known world.
Positioned near fertile lands and the southern coast, Oldtown provides a foundation for expansion across the Reach, into the Dornish deserts, and along the coastline to connect with Westeros’s southern powers.

Gameplay
Your faction leader will measure your actions against past ties to the Blacks and continue to press you to prove your loyalty and value to the Greens. They will push you to reclaim key seats, noting where your actions shaped the outcome and where opportunities were missed, with a clear demand for stronger results ahead. Be sure to fortify your stronghold before the next battles and ready your dragons for war.
Work with allies in your Faction & Alliance to secure nearby towns and castles. Then seize Seats of Power across the region. You can do this by strengthening your dragons and securing key territories across Westeros. By conquering greater Seats of Power, your presence becomes impossible to ignore. By fortifying your stronghold it becomes a fortress.
Then once you have properly prepared, and the Crownlands become available, Conquer King’s Landing. This is the final step. Shape who gains the most influence over Aegon II by taking King’s Landing in your leader’s name!
But victory is never secure. The people still whisper of rivals, and loyalties remain divided. Root out dissent and prepare for what comes next as you prepare to enter the next campaign: The Dragon’s Divide.
