The Dragon’s Divide is one of the many campaigns you experience while playing through Game of Thrones: Dragonfire. In this blog, we’ll go over the story of The Dragon’s Divide, what to expect, and what to best take advantage of to make the most of this reign.
This is an alternative path to the Dragon’s Divide II.
As you play Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, Campaigns offer you a path into the heart of Westeros, playing through epic scenarios that may shape the realm’s future. You can learn more about the technical specifics of Reigns, Campaigns, Stages, and Transitions by reading our Guide to Campaigns.

Overview
The Greens still hold King’s Landing, but the Blacks no longer march as one. As faith in Rhaenyra falters, rival dragons rise from within her own cause—each promising to end the war, each certain the crown belongs to them.
From the Vale, Rhaenyra rallies House Arryn and her mother’s bloodright. In the Westerlands, Rhaenys gathers gold, fleets, and those who would restore the realm through rightful measure. In the Stormlands, Daemon turns strength, fear, and fire into a weapon of conquest.
Bind allies, break rivals, and decide which dragon will rule the ashes…

Faction Selection
At the end of your previous campaign you’ll select a faction made up of other fellow players to fight beside you, though this selection is not guaranteed. You’ll work together to capture Seats of Power and complete key Campaign Goals and Stage Objectives. You can learn more by reading our Introduction to Factions & Alliances.
Within the Dragon’s Divide campaign, there are three factions available to choose from, each with two starting locations. But choosing the Mercenary option will reward a stipend of gold and place you randomly upon one of the three factions that are in the most dire need of your skill!

Rhaenyra Targaryen – The Vale
High above the realm, the Vale stands among soaring peaks and ancient keeps. Begin at the Eyrie or Starfall.

When my father named me heir, he did not do so in secret. The lords of the realm bent the knee and swore their oaths before the Iron Throne. Some now pretend those words were wind. They were not. The Vale has long understood the danger of careless promises. The houses of the south know too well what comes when Oldtown cloaks ambition in virtue. I will not answer treachery with submission, nor meet piety with silence.
I ask for clear eyes, loyal hearts, and the courage to remember what was sworn.
The realm must not be ruled by those who teach that a woman’s inheritance may be stolen the moment men find it convenient.

Rhaenyra Targaryen presses her claim through her blood ties to House Arryn, rallying loyalty at the Eyrie while extending her reach southward. Through promises of autonomy, freer trade, and protection beneath dragon wings, allies pledge quiet fealty to her black banners.
Her claim can rise from one of two seats:
The Eyrie — (1573, 1659) — Her kinship through her mother, Queen Aemma, wins the loyalty of Lady Jeyne Arryn and her isolationist court.
Starfall — (819,249) — House Dayne, an ancient and proud house, shares her wariness of Hightower expansion and Oldtown’s creeping influence, linking the Vale’s mountain strength with Dorne’s defiance.

Rhaenys Targaryen – Westerlands
Gold runs through the hills of the Westerlands, where power is guarded with a lion’s pride. Begin at Casterly Rock or Widow’s Watch.

I was passed over once by men who feared what a woman might become with power in her hands. I accepted their judgment for the sake of the realm.
I will not watch that same fear tear the realm apart now. The Westerlands know the cost of legacy, and the North knows the worth of vows that survive winter. Let those strengths be joined. We will not win by rage, nor by spectacle, nor by burning every hall that doubts us.
We will win by making ourselves necessary: by keeping ports open, lords paid, roads held, and promises honored.
Peace is not weakness. It is the work of those strong enough to choose it.

When Rhaenys Targaryen, the Queen Who Never Was, asserts her claim, her cause finds unlikely sympathy in the North. Where others wage war for vengeance or birthright, she fights to restore balance—a queen not of fire or storm, but of rightful measure.
Her cause can rise from one of two seats:
Casterly Rock — (544,1227) — The Westerlands grant her coin, ships, and the legacy of Velaryon might through her marriage to Lord Corlys.
Widow’s Watch — (1933, 2318) —On the cold eastern coast, House Flint offers a sea route straight into the North, mutually beneficial for them and the Velaryon fleets. As two seafaring houses, they see in her not another pretender, but a steady hand to mend what ambition has broken.

Daemon Targaryen – Stormlands
Beneath black skies and battered coasts, the Stormlands raise iron-willed lords. Begin at Storm’s End or Ashen Vale.

I have spent my life watching lesser men inherit what braver men are made to take. They dress it in law. They call it order. I call it cowardice with a seal pressed into wax. The Stormlands do not need pretty words from King’s Landing. The northern hills do not need another lord telling them to wait their turn. They need a banner worth following, a war worth winning, and a dragon at their back when the old powers come to collect their due.
Fight for me, and no man will ask whether you were born high enough to matter.
Only whether you were strong enough to stand.

Daemon Targaryen wages his own campaign of conquest, spreading his influence into harsh and restless lands where loyalty is earned by strength alone. He harnesses their ferocity, forging from chaos a vanguard that mirrors his own: fierce, untamed, and unyielding.
His cause can rise from one of two seats:
The Stormlands — (1772, 732) — A foothold that grants him both legitimacy and a staging ground, home to hardy lords, raiders, and warriors long neglected by the Iron Throne.
The Ashen Vale — (631, 2291) — A scarred, ember-grey stretch of land bordering the Rills, where the clans and minor houses have long been overlooked and overshadowed by Stark dominance. They bend the knee not for oaths or lineage, but for the promise of plunder, protection, and power under dragonfire.

Gameplay
Your faction leader will measure your actions and continue to press you to prove your loyalty and value. They will push you to reclaim key seats, noting where your actions shaped the outcome and where opportunities were missed, with a clear demand for stronger results ahead. Be sure to fortify your stronghold before the next battles and ready your dragons for war.
Work with allies in your Faction & Alliance to secure nearby towns and castles. Then seize Seats of Power across the region. You can do this by strengthening your dragons and securing key territories across Westeros. By conquering greater Seats of Power, your presence becomes impossible to ignore. By fortifying your stronghold it becomes a fortress.
Then once you have properly prepared, and the Crownlands become available, Seize King’s Landing. The realm will see who was always meant to sit the Iron Throne. It has waited long enough for those with the stomach to claim it.
Victory is never secure. The people still whisper of rivals, and loyalties remain divided. Perhaps an alternative path could’ve been taken….
