Heirs of the Dragon – Campaign

Published on

Welcome to Heirs of the Dragon. Welcome to Game of Thrones: Dragonfire!

Heirs of the Dragon is the first of many campaigns you will experience while playing through Game of Thrones: Dragonfire. In this blog, we’ll go over the story of this campaign, what to expect, and what to best take advantage of to make the most of your first reign.

Take Note: Heirs of the Dragon is unique as an introductory campaign, and you will likely never repeat it once completed.

As you play Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, Campaigns offer you a path into the heart of Westeros, playing through epic scenarios that may shape the realm’s future. You can learn more about the technical specifics of Reigns, Campaigns, Stages, and Transitions by reading our Guide to Campaigns.

Overview

Following your reward for loyal service to the crown, unrest brews as the question of succession looms. Although Rhaenyra, the Realm’s Delight, is named the King’s Heir, the birth of King Viserys I Targaryen’s son, Aegon, raises the prospect of a male successor.

With her claim under threat, Rhaenyra calls upon loyal factions to rally to her cause and aid her in driving the Greens from King’s Landing, igniting the clash for control!

Faction Selection

At the start of your first Reign, you’ll select a faction made up of other fellow players to fight beside you, though this selection is not guaranteed. You’ll work together to capture Seats of Power and complete key Campaign Goals and Stage Objectives. You can learn more by reading our Introduction to Factions & Alliances.

For Heirs of the Dragon, there are three factions available to choose from. But choosing the Mercenary option will reward a stipend of gold and place you randomly upon one of the three factions that are in the most dire need of your skill!

Northern Westeros

Ally with other players in the North. A land of hard winters, hardy folk, and solemn oaths, where loyalty is earned and honor still carries weight. A rugged, unforgiving land where loyalty and resilience define its people. Winters are harsh, but alliances forged here are unbreakable. Only the strong endure the North’s challenges.

Begin on the rugged coastlines of Pyke (563, 1584), the ancient seat of House Greyjoy, perched dramatically on crumbling cliffs in the Iron Islands. Its grey-black stone keeps, linked by precarious rope bridges, stand as stark symbols of Ironborn resilience and power.

Though isolated, Pyke is a steadfast starting point, primed for swift expansion into the Iron Islands and northward toward Winterfell’s powerful domain.

Central Westeros

Ally with other players in Central Westeros. A realm of ancient seats, courtly ambition, and watchful lords, shaped by its closeness to power. The heart of the realm, rich with fertile lands and bustling trade routes. Central Westeros promises prosperity, but shifting loyalties and proximity to King’s Landing keep tensions high.

Begin your journey at the lofty heights of the Eyrie (1573, 1659) , a fortress of enduring strength nestled high in the Vale. Perched high on the Giant’s Lance, the Eyrie is the ancestral seat of House Arryn, one of the oldest Andal lines. Accessible by treacherous mountain paths and guarded by waycastles, its slender white towers symbolize beauty and impregnability.

From this strategic stronghold, extend your reach into the fertile Riverlands and the rugged Mountains of the Moon, establishing a formidable presence across central and eastern Westeros.

Southern Westeros

Ally with other players in the South. A land of fierce sun, elegance, and proud houses, where passion burns hot and vengeance is an art.

A region of sunlit hills, thriving ports, and ancient knowledge. From the deserts of Dorne to the learned halls of Oldtown, Southern Westeros rewards those who respect its customs and seize its opportunities.

Launch from the ancient city of Oldtown (557, 403), a hub of trade and knowledge is a historic city and seat of House Hightower. Known for its lighthouse and the Citadel, it stands as a hub of trade and learning, its harbor welcoming ships from across the known world.

Positioned near fertile lands and the southern coast, Oldtown provides a foundation for expansion across the Reach, into the Dornish deserts, and along the coastline to connect with Westeros’s southern powers.

Gameplay

Work with allies in your Faction & Alliance to secure nearby towns and castles. Then seize Seats of Power across the region. You can do this by strengthening your dragons and securing key territories across Westeros. By conquering greater Seats of Power, your presence becomes impossible to ignore. By fortifying your stronghold it becomes a fortress.

Then once you have properly prepared, and the Crownlands become available, Conquer King’s Landing. This is the final step. Take the city, claim the throne, and let fire and blood decide the future of the realm.

But victory is never secure. The people still whisper of rivals, and loyalties remain divided. Root out dissent and prepare for what comes next as you prepare to enter the next campaign: The Shadow of the Greens.
